Dear Fort Collins City Council,
The Arts Make Fort Collins Great! I believe our local arts professionals and cultural organizations make Fort Collins a great city and I want the City to invest more in local artists, creative businesses, arts organizations, and cultural facilities in the 2013-2014 budget.
According to the 2009 WESTAF Creative Vitality Index, Fort Collins is an outstanding arts community. There are 6,485 working artists and creative professionals in the Fort Collins MSA. Individual artists and creative sector businesses generate $62,627,000 towards our economy every year. The arts are an important economic driver for our local economy.
The 2010 Arts & Economic Prosperity IV study from Americans for the Arts showed that our nonprofit arts and culture organizations grew even while the nations’ arts groups declined. Fort Collins nonprofit arts professionals comprise 528 full time local jobs and more than $19 million in industry expenditures.
Please restore funding in the 2013-2014 City of Fort Collins budget for the Gardens on Spring Creek Great Lawn, Arts Incubator of the Rockies, and to continue to invest fully in the Cultural Services Department.
The success and activities of our local artists, musicians, facilities, and organizations has finally put Fort Collins on the national map - don’t skimp on funding them now! Fully funding these programs will help fulfill the vision and objectives outlined in the City Cultural Plan that was adopted in 2008.
